Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy : Works of Mercy

Health Care
Sisters work in all areas of health care - in hospitals
as medical staff, managers and chaplains, in outreach clinics
to remote areas, as counsellors, in child-care, in senior citizens
homes, in addiction centres, in sheltered housing, in centres
for the homeless and in visitation of the aged and sick.
As a Congregation we are deeply committed to the fight against
HIV/AIDS through direct programmes of care, support of families
and education/awareness raising programmes. Much of the work
of our Sisters in Nigeria, Zambia, South Africa and Kenya is
with those infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic in
Africa.
A range of new ministries is flourishing in the complementary
health and medical field. Sisters are exploring holistic approaches
to many diseases and ailments and are engaging with native
peoples in the reclaiming of natural healing methods.
Care of the Aged and rehabilitation are also catered for as
well as centres for those dependent on drugs and alcohol.
