The Sisters of Mercy of Newfoundland in preparing for the 1994 dedication of Mercy International Centre wished to emphasize values shaped by geography and faith.

Newfoundland is an island in the Atlantic Ocean. Many small communities are nestled close to the sea which for many years was the source of the people's livelihood.

ustained by a strong faith in God which helped them through difficult times, the people of Newfoundland take pride in their community church which always has a place of prominence.

Even in summer, snow can be seen on the distant hills
as the boats are anchored in the bay.
