Emerging Involvements
for MGC
World Conference on Racism, Racial
Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance
The aim is to be action-oriented and focus on practical measures
to eradicate racism. The Secretary General of the Conference
is Mrs. Mary Robinson, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights,
who is currently seeking the nomination of respected public
figures who can act as "goodwill ambassadors" to promote
the conference. MGC hopes to have a representative at the first
Preparatory Committee meeting to be held in Geneva at the beginning
of May.
High-level event on Financing for
Development
Involving political decision-makers at least at the ministerial
level, it aims to consider the urgent issue of mobilising financial
resources for international development in the context of globalisation.
Its outcomes will be essential for implementing the plans of
action of the major United Nations conferences and summits of
the past decade, with special attention to poverty eradication
and the wider issue of global inequity. More information about
these initiatives on request. MGC will advertise opportunities
for the Mercy public to become involved in a variety of ways.
