Mercy Global Concern - 1999 to 2001

Early Announcement: August Conference

Each year the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) invites Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) with UN affiliation to name up to 20 participants for a conference on a theme of critical interest to both the UN and NGOs.

Mercy Global Concern, representing the Mercy International Association at the UN, is making this early announcement to enable those in Mercy circles worldwide - sisters, associates, colleagues - who may be in a position to visit New York this year for the conference, to make the necessary advance travel plans.

The conference for the year 2000 will be linked with other major UN or UN-sponsored initiatives with a focus on giving a new direction to the work of the UN for the new millennium. As such, it will provide a unique opportunity to give expression to the biblical theme of 'jubilee' in a globally significant context. Basic details are as follows:

Dates: 28 - 30 August (Monday - Wednesday)

Venue: United Nations Headquarters, New York City

Tentative theme: Global Solidarity for Peace and International Cooperation

There is no fee for the conference. All expenses related to travel, accommodation and meals are the responsibility of each participant. In a later communication, some accommodation options will be provided.

Mercy Global Concern is happy to accept initial expressions of interest. These should include contact details (mailing address, phone, fax, email) current for the last two weeks of May, when formal applications for participation will be invited.
