This year the regular annual session of the United Nations
Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will focus on two thematic
issues:
- Women, the girl child and human immuno-deficiency syndrome
(HIV/AIDS)
- Gender and all forms of discrimination, in particular racism,
racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.
The Commission will also adopt its new work program for the
period 2002-2005.
Briefings and special panels organized by UN bodies and women's
NGOs will also take place during the session, and NGO caucus
meetings will be scheduled.
Mercy Global Concern (MGC) invites interested Sisters of Mercy,
associates and colleagues who are able to be in New York for
the two weeks of the meeting to partcipate as members of a Mercy
working team, bringing insights and expertise to the issues
under consideration. Those participating are required to cover
their own travel and accommodation expenses. MGC can provide
some accommodation options on request.
