UNAIDS is a family of organizations and was founded in 1996 comprising of UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, ILO, UNESCO, WHO, World Bank.

HIV/AIDS is a global epidemic, the worst ever in human history.

Impacts mainly young people and the latest figures are as follows:

  • 42 million adults and children have HIV/AIDS of these...
  • 980,000 live in North America
  • 44,000 live in the Caribbean
  • 1. 5 million live in Latin America
  • 29.4 million live in Sub-Sarah ran Africa (in 19 African countries more than 20% of the population have HIV/AIDS
  • 570,000 live in Western Europe
  • 15,000 live in New Zealand and Australia
  • 1.2 million live in Asia and eastern Europe - and Russia has the fastest growing
  • HIV population in the world.
  • 6 million live in South and South East Asia.
  • Africa has the biggest problem of heterosexually transmission - in the rest of the world it is a mix.

    • There were 5 million new infections last year which means...
    • 14 thousand per day
    • 14 million children have been orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS
