Christmas Greetings 2004

A Christmas greeting for all Mercy Sisters and associates. We ask for peace specially in the places where there is war. That the hope of a new world blooms in actions of justice and mercy. That the swords become plows so that there is bread for all the people of the world.

Hna. Angelina Mitre/Panamá

Our Lady of TendernessStable of Bethlehem

Space of tenderness, home of hospitality

- to an anxious couple in search of shelter

- to a new-born child, fragile and vulnerable

- to poor shepherds, on the margins of society

- to searching Magi, believing in the promise of the star

As we rejoice in God-with-us

may we become Bethlehem spaces,

open to receive and embrace

the fragile, the vulnerable, the displaced

in ourselves

in one another

in our world.

Christmas

- stillness of God, whisper of love

- breath of God, quiet mystery

- light of God, holy wisdom

- shadow of God, birth of mercy.

May God be with us in tenderness and love this Christmas.

From the deep snows of the Haliburton Highlands in Ontario, Canada, I send greetings of light and warmth to Sisters in Mercy all over the world!
Living here reminds me often of Catherine's pioneering spirit, and her willingness to endure hardships in order to make Mercy present in new places. Living in a forest on a river, and heating with wood in -30 temperatures, opens new understanding and relationship with creation in its season of diminishment and death, also known as dormancy. There are deep lessons here, a preview of dying and rising that only the earth can give.

So from the depths of cold and snow, the Light of Christmas shines forth in a warm greeting and joy in abundant life.

During this Christmas Season may the peace of Christ be welcomed into the hearts of all those associated with Mercy throughout the world and may it spread through them to all those with whom they come in contact.

May peace reign on earth!

Nancy Thompson rsm/Americas

To all the Sisters of Mercy throughout the world.

May the Christ Child be born again in all our hearts this Christmas. As we celebrate his birth let us remember the poor and marginalised of the world and let us radiate his love and tenderness to those with whom and for whom we minister.

In love and Mercy. Nollaig faoi shean agus faoi mhaise dibh go leir. A happy and peaceful Christmas to you all.
