Foundation Day Messages 2006

Page 1

Greetings to each of you on the occasion of our Foundation Day on December 12th.

Celebrate and enjoy this day in a way that gives life and meaning to you and to the life of Mercy today!

The celebration of 175 years of our Mercy Life is being significantly marked by the broadcasting of a Mass on Ireland’s national television on December 17th. This Eucharistic celebration is an occasion where we, through the web of interconnections in and beyond our Congregation, can unite to give thanks for and celebrate the God of Mercy who continually reveals the creative tender heart of Mercy in all of life today.

With love and blessing

Nga mihi o te wa.

Foundation Day greetings to all our Sisters and companions in mission across the world.

This year in Aotearoa New Zealand Foundation Day is also the first anniversary of the new congregation Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa Sisters of Mercy New Zealand .

Celebrations have included the installation of the Mauri Stone of the new congregation and the inaugural Catherine McAuley Lecture Series marking 175 years of Mercy.  Both these events are featured on the new website for the congregation launched today.

He hari koa mo nga turanga hou!

Hurrah for new foundations!

For I show mercy unto thousands,
to those who love me and keep my commandments.

Deuteronomy 5:10

Greetings and best wishes as we all share in the joy and celebration of the 175th anniversary of the founding of Mercy. May the spirit of Mercy and compassion be our inspiration as we continue to reach out to thousands through presence and ministry.

Heartfelt Greetings to all on this 175th Anniversary of the Founding of the Sisters of Mercy.

Though she claimed no credit for birthing an apostolic community
at a time when this was uncommon and even suspect,
Catherine persevered and welcomed others
who shared her dream and commitment.

How happy she must be today
as she witnesses from her place in heaven
the flowering of her Sisters of Mercy around the world!

May we who follow her dream
share her perseverance in the face of injustice,
her courage in times of trial and sadness,
her tender concern for all who are denied their rights and needs,
and her love for her sisters and those who share their commitment to Mercy.
