Abundant Mercy Day greetings to each Sister!!!

Providence, Rhode Island, USA where I have spent the last seven weeks was so named by the founder of the city, Roger Williams, in acknowledgment of the providence of God in bringing him to this place. His commitment and passion was to provide freedom of religion and worship according to the conscience of each individual.

Catherine's convictions about the providence of God in her life have been to the fore as I too have experienced so many blessings and graced opportunities, all so providential at this time in this place.

Each of you has played a part in my experience of the providence of God and I hold you with love and gratitude, united as we are through being shaped by Catherine's living of God's mercy.

Let us celebrate such richness wherever we are!!!

Julie O'Brien rsm, Melbourne/Australia

Special greetings to the Mercy people of our world.  In this Jubilee Year of 175 years may we reconnect in a special way with Catherine and her companions with hospitality, fun, reflection and the justice that was so dear to their hearts.

From the five continents of the world the Mercy International Justice Network send greetings this Mercy Day to all of you!  May Catherine’s spirit continue to animate us as we join with Mercy Sisters, Associates and Companions across the globe in our world-wide ritual of lighting a candle, and praying for world peace, on the feast of our Lady of Mercy and on the 24th of each month thereafter.  One prayer that some have suggested is:

Lord as we light this candle for peace, may your peace fill our hearts and the hearts of all.  As the light of this candle dispels darkness, may your love dispel the fear which underlies so much violence and hatred in our world.  (Pause for a moment to remember the families who live in a specific area of conflict.)

Much love and prayers

Angela Hartigan rsm (Africa), Deborah Watson rsm (Latin America and the Caribbean); Sheila O’Gorman rsm (Europe); Dale Jarvis rsm (North America); Helen Owens rsm (Asia Pacific).

As we celebrate this Mercy Day during the 175th anniversary, we here in Catherine’s House, remember all the Mercy family throughout the world.  May all of us continue to be touched by Catherine’s spirit of compassion, courage and trust in Divine Providence. We wish you joy and blessing on Mercy Day and we hope that you will have some time for fun and play in the spirit of Catherine.
