Sister Anna is from Co Longford in the Irish Midlands and has a background in teaching, faith development, school chaplaincy and scripture reflection. She has authored several other books including The Quality of Mercy and In the Secret of My Heart.

  • 58 Years of Mercy. One Powerful Message for the Carlow University Class of 2026

    Sister Sheila Carney - a native of Pittsburgh, graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy and Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) - will return to her alma mater to deliver the 2026 Commencement address and receive an honorary degree on Saturday 9th May. As graduates prepare to take the next step, they will hear from someone who has spent her life putting mercy into action.

  • Logo launched for 200th anniversary of opening of first House of Mercy

    Mercy International Association (MIA) has launched the official logo for the 200th anniversary of the Founding of Catherine McAuley's First House of Mercy at 64a Lower Baggot Street, Dublin in 1827. The anniversary logo is rich in historical and symbolic meaning. The logo kit with copyright information, brand guidelines and recommended usage, will be available from MIA in early March.

  • Update on the Essential Works taking place at Catherine's House

    The Essential Works are well underway at Catherine's House, 64a Lower Baggot Street, Dublin. We took part in a hard-hat walk through the house in December and we are delighted to be able to share with you some of the images of the work. We have also prepared a set of Frequently Asked Questions which cover much of the detail of this phase of the work.

Catherine McAuley

Catherine McAuley was born in Dublin, Ireland, in September, 1778. In 1824 she used her inheritance from an Irish couple she had served for twenty years to build a large House of Mercy on Baggot Street, Dublin in response to the needs of the poor of Dublin. Today that house is known as Mercy International Centre and is home to the Mercy family from all over the world.
