St Teresa’s Clarendon Street First Mercy Burial Place

The long-standing relationship Mercy has with the Carmelites began in Catherine’s time as Rev. O’Hanlon, ODC served as Confessor for the young Mercy community. The Carmelite community was kind to the Mercy community and offered space in the crypt of their church for the burial of the thirteen Sisters who died at Baggot Street prior to Catherine’s death. The Carmelites also supplied vestments and altar breads for the early community on Baggot Street.

The first thirteen Sisters of Mercy are buried in the crypt of this church.
