Catherine's Legacy and the future of Mercy are safe in the hands of our Young Mercy Leaders

We have had the great pleasure of hosting our annual Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage in Catherine’s House this past week. It was wonderful to spend time with Mercy Students from Carlow University, Saint Xavier University, Georgian Court, Salve Regina, Gywnedd Mercy University and St Aloysius College.
Day one of the pilgrimage focused on Catherine’s House and her story.
Day Two was devoted to Mercy Justice with guest speaker JP O’Sullivan from MECPATHS. In the afternoon there was a chance for the Young Mercy Leaders to spend time with Sisters of Mercy from Ireland and the US and to listen to their stories.
Day three of the pilgrimage saw the group set off for the day to Glendalough where they were hosted by the Sisters of Mercy and guided through St Kevin’s Monastic Site and surrounds.

Friday was the final day for the Young Mercy Leaders in Catherine’s House when the focus shifted to the call of Mercy Leadership. We had a guided reflection at Catherine’s grave and then each member of the group was invited to write a letter to Catherine.
We had an unexpected visit from Brenda Dolphin rsm, outgoing postulator for the cause of Catherine’s canonisation. She joined the group to pray for Catherine’s canonisation.
In the afternoon of the final day the focus moved into the question: What kind of a leader are you? They were introduced to Catherine’s leadership style. The young leaders were also invited to meet in different university groups to share stories and plans to put mercy in action when they return home.

Lunch was a celebration for a wonderful week and the final part of the pilgrimage focused on the take aways for the young leaders. Following the presentation of certificates to the universities and to each one of the Young Mercy Leaders Comms Crew, there was a prayer service in the chapel with a closing ritual and farewell blessing.

All we can say as the Young Mercy Leaders make their way home from Catherine’s House is that Catherine McAuley’s legacy and the future of Mercy is very safe in the hands of these young leaders.
