Announcing our speakers for our November Communications Café on social media
)
Our next Mercy Communications Café will open on Zoom on Wednesday the 19th of November 2025 at 9.00pm (local time to Dublin).
The topic for our third Communications Café will be Social Media Case Files.
We have invited a number of communications practitioners and experts from the Mercy World to join us on Zoom to share some of their tips on using social media to tell stories from the Mercy World and to engage people in their mission and ministry.
Our speakers are:
Sr Cathy Edge RSM
Cathy is a member of the Institute in Britain, where she’s spent years weaving compassion into classrooms and chaplaincy corridors. With a background in education and a knack for communications, she now helps her congregation stay connected - both spiritually and digitally (yes, she knows her way around a computer and a hashtag).
Armed with an MA in Ecology and Theology, Cathy believes that caring for creation and faith are intrinsically linked. She’s currently in her final year of training to be a spiritual director through the Ignatian Spirituality Course (artsd.org.uk).
Online, she’s affectionately known as @KnittingNun, where she occasionally swaps theological reflection for tangled yarn, purl stitches or even baking a cake.
Luke Watkins
"Luke is the Communications Manager for Mercy Volunteer Corps, where he leads the communication strategies across web, social media, marketing, and design in order to share the stories of Mercy Volunteers.
After graduating from Ithaca College, he worked as a documentarian and community advocate on high-impact projects that uplift communities facing environmental distress. He joined the team at Mercy Volunteer Corps in 2021, continuing his commitment to storytelling and social justice."
Roz Parr
Roz Parr serves as the Communications & Social Media Associate for the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. Her responsibilities include managing several social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Pinterest. Roz is based in Omaha, Nebraska, where she attended Creighton University, receiving her bachelor’s in journalism and master’s in English. A proud Mercy High School alumna, she was first introduced to the Sisters of Mercy as a seven-year-old who took piano lessons from Sister Catherine Marie Franey.
The Communications Café will be hosted by MIA's Head of Communications Brenda Drumm who will also share her thoughts on Tik Tok. With a passion for connecting people and communities through storytelling and digital engagement, Brenda has played a key role in shaping how the Church communicates in an increasingly online world. Brenda has led numerous national and international digital initiatives that bring faith to life in the digital space. She was the creative force behind the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference Online Advent Calendar, an innovative project that has become a much-loved annual feature since its launch in 2014.
All are welcome to the Communications Café which is open now for registration.
