Doris Gottemoeller rsm 2018 Bernardin Award Recipient
CCGI (Catholic Common Ground Initiative) awarded the 2018 Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Award to Doris Gottemoeller rsm who has served on the National Advisory Committee of CCGI for many years, and whose contributions to education, healthcare, and religious life have exemplified the spirit of dialogue and peacebuilding modeled by Cardinal Bernardin.
The Catholic Common Ground Initiative was inaugurated by the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin with the release of a statement, Called to Be Catholic: Church in a Time of Peril, on August 12, 1996.
Sister Doris is the chair of Partners in Catholic Health Ministry, the sponsor of Mercy Health, and a member of the Board of Trustees at Mercy Health. She was the first president of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, the Provincial of the Sisters of Mercy of the Cincinnati Province, president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, a delegate to the International Union of Superiors General, and an auditor at the Synod on Consecrated Life.
