We begin with The Farm at St Joe’s…
PONTIAC, Mich. (May 25, 2021) – St. Joseph Mercy Oakland announced today the opening of a new hospital-based farm, located alongside Woodward Avenue on the hospital's main campus. The Farm at St. Joe's Oakland offers a safe, appealing space for patients, health care providers and the community to learn, engage, and develop the skills needed to transform their long-term health through food.
"At St. Joe's we understand that food is medicine," said Amanda Sweetman, director of Farming and Healthy Lifestyles at Trinity Health Michigan. “By exposing patients, doctors, and the communities we serve to fresh, accessible produce, we encourage healthier living and empower them to prevent future illness."…

Learning, Experiencing, Growing: Reflections of an Outgoing Intern
Applying for the intern position at MGA was one of the best decisions I’ve made! It has been a year of learning, experiencing, and growing, and my heart is filled with gratitude as it comes to an end.
Here are my top five things that I’ve learned during my internship with MGA:
1. Having a supportive team around you is so important
2. Poverty is definitely not a fate!
3. Adaptability is key
4. If the opportunity is there, grab it!
5. Enjoy yourself!

MIA Prayer Intention: Contemplation and Compassion
Loving God, pour out your Spirit upon us.
You have given life and breath to all creation since the dawn of the Universe.
Pour out your Spirit that we may see visions and dream dreams.
Give us a deeper awareness that we are part of all that you have made.
Open our hearts anew to the cry of Earth and the cry of the Poor.
At this moment in our history, may we see with contemplation and respond with compassion.
Amen

Carol Wheeler rsm RIP
Mercy educators in many places, particularly the US, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, are familiar with the 13 page monograph by Carol Wheeler rsm ‘Catherine: A Reflection on Values from the Mercy Tradition’ which originated as an address delivered by Sr Carol. First published in 1991, it has had three subsequent printings and is available from the MIA Gift Shop (currently closed).
Sr Carol was principal (and later president) of Mercy High School Baltimore for 36 years until her retirement in 2013. She played an integral role in shaping what is now the Mercy Education System of the Americas (MESA). Among the many public tributes to her, following her death last month, was this one in the Archdiocesan ‘Catholic Review’.
