In our world today we see so much instability with some of our world leaders refusing to look at the past or seek the reason why injustices occur whilst they create their own empires. The Gospel story is our foundation story and seeing ordinary human beings like Catherine McAuley and Elizabeth McQuoin live it extraordinarily well, is both a gift and a challenge to our present and future generations…

Some Thoughts On A Workshop On Eco-Spirituality
There is a very active JPIC group in the parish of Rosebank, Johannesburg. I have done some work with them on eco-spirituality and was asked by the newly formed Justice and Peace group of a neighbouring parish to facilitate a workshop on eco-spirituality with them.
This was really enriching: a deeply spiritual experience for me and for the group…

My Vegetarian Thing
A few weeks ago, someone asked me, “Are you still doing your vegetarian thing?” The question surprised me at first, and after my initial “yes,” I realized I was grateful for the opportunity the question afforded me. Why am I a vegetarian? What do I get out of it? What does the world get out of it?…
In finally fully committing to becoming a vegetarian last March, two texts grabbed my consciousness. The first, unsurprisingly, is Laudato Sí….

Significance of Fasting & Abstinence
Reflection
Significance of Fasting & Abstinence
‘Our fasting and abstinence, if we are serious about them, have a particular significance in a world dominated by a culture of consumption. Today we are all encouraged to think of ourselves as ‘consumers’ or ‘customers’, as if the material things of creation had no other meaning than to be used by human beings. Fasting is a form of restraint in which we stand back to contemplate things as they are in themselves, as they are in relationship to God the creator, and not just a they exist for us.’

The Bottom Line
‘We have such a full and wonderful potential as Christians, which is both ancient and new. It’s [ground]ed and yet it reaches high. It’s apostolic and it’s also contemporary. The Greek word for us is Christianos, which means those who are “in the company of Christ”. Each of us can be fully anointed and fully empowered to bring something unique that no one else can bring, if we will but have the courage and faith to do it.’
