MGA Presents During the Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage: Discovering the Tools for a Future of Justice and Mercy
)
On July 14th, the Mercy Global Action team joined the Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage to unpack complex systems through Mercy and Justice.
Cecilie Kern, Global Policy and Research Advocate, discussed the three key documents that guide our work for justice throughout the Mercy world -Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Paris Agreement. These documents were published in order to articulate a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that people can enjoy peace and prosperity.
In order to address the challenges in our world today, we understand the need to lead collectively, collaboratively, with compassion, and with care. We need to identify common goals, share resources and our various strengths and talents, and work in partnership in order to tackle the global challenges of our time.

MIA Prayer Intention: International Youth Day
The United Nations has named 12 August as International Youth Day, knowing that the changes we need to see for our Earth and all Earth-beings, will not be achieved without the wholehearted participation of Young People. We pray…
Creator God, we give thanks for the generosity, energy, creativity, and enthusiasm which so often characterises young people. We give thanks for the inspiration they are for each other and for those of us no longer young. May they have the courage, vision, and persistence they will need to continue to work for a better world for all…

Mercy Investment Services: Pandemic Impacts Human Trafficking Worldwide
Although the COVID-19 pandemic shut down many aspects of our global community, human trafficking unfortunately did not stop. The annual Trafficking in Persons report, released this month by the U.S. State Department, assesses the current state of human trafficking around the world and the pandemic’s impact.
In light of the goal to eliminate human trafficking, the report ranks each country on how it meets the Trafficking Victims Protection Act minimum standards, with Tier 1 being in compliance and Tier 3 meaning the country does not meet the standard and is not attempting to do so. Of note in this year’s report, Armenia and the Dominican Republic both improved to Tier 2, while Switzerland was downgraded to Tier 2 and Malaysia to Tier 3. View each country's ranking on this map.
Mercy Investment Services and other shareholders use this report to address human trafficking with companies, both directly and through companies’ supply chains.

Representatives from MECPATHS, The Immigrant Council of Ireland, The Migrants Rights Centre Ireland, Ruhama, Act to Prevent Trafficking, Maynooth University, Akidwa and The International Organisation for Migration mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons which takes place on July 30th.
The Anti-Trafficking Community in Ireland continues to raise awareness and their concerns about the placement of Ireland on a Tier 2 Watch-list by The US State Department which categorises Ireland as ‘the worst country in Western Europe’ in relation to Anti Human Trafficking responsiveness.
