MGA Signs Letter by the UN NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security
Mercy Global Action invites the Mercy World to read and reflect upon an open letter by the UN NGO working Group on Women, Peace and Security to Member States of the United Nations. MIA-Global Action signed on to this letter along with many other faith based organisations.
In summary, the key recommendations to Members States are calling on them to :
- Immediately stop intimidation, attacks, or reprisals against all human rights defenders;
- Prevent threats and violence against women human rights defenders, peacebuilders, and civil society leaders;
- Call on Secretary- General Antonio Guterres to ensure that the UN provides all necessary protection and support to those at risk or who have faced reprisals; and
- Ensure women civil society representatives regularly brief the Security Council.

MIA Prayer Intention: ISMAPNG Offers Meditation in Time of Pandemic
The Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea warmly invites all sisters world-wide, along with Mercy colleagues and friends, to unite in prayer for these Covid times on the Feast of the Holy Cross, September 14 (Tuesday).
The prayer Meditation in Time of Pandemic has been prepared by Mary Wickham, an Australian sister well known and appreciated for her poetry and retreats in the Celtic tradition.
Designed for small groups or for individual prayer, Meditation is in video form and, without any pause for contemplation or shared reflection, takes about 22 minutes.
Please join us in Australia and Papua New Guinea as a vibrant expression of global Mercy unity in this critical period of pandemic affecting the whole human family.

The newly published poetry collection titled Being The Bird, by Australian Sister of Mercy Mary Wickham is now available
The book contains a large number of previously unpublished poems, as well as gathering up some familiar Mercy prayers, such as The Door of Mercy and Litany of Mercy, and the set of poems about Baggot St, which reflect on different rooms and spaces at Catherine’s house.
The poems are essentially about encounter: with the Divine, the natural world, the Celtic landscape and spirit, and those whose lives the poet has shared through journeys of birth and death, dementia, and abuse. Several poems are directly related to the Covid-19 experience.
A number of Mary’s poems have won awards over the years and her poetry has been featured in installations in Cathedrals, hospitals and schools as well as periodicals in the USA, Ireland and Australia.

Mercy Investment Services: Recognising Mercy's Leadership in Impact Investing
A recent article in ImpactAlpha, a publication dedicated to highlighting the work of impact investments in our global community, praises the longtime dedication of religious congregations, including the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, in the shareholder advocacy and community investing fields. The Sisters of Mercy began making community investments in the 1970s; this investing continues today through Mercy Partnership Fund, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. The article says:
“Groups like the Adrian Dominican Sisters and the Sisters of Mercy were not only instrumental in early efforts to hold public companies more accountable, but were pioneers in impact-first investing. They were amongst the very first to provide low interest loans to nascent community development finance institutions (CDFIs)… They have remained steadfast and true to this commitment over the ensuing decades and continue to be pioneers in our sector.”
