Mercy Global Action Celebrates World Water Day
)
22 March marked World Water Day, a day to advocate for and acknowledge the impact of our fresh water supply. Mercy Global Action invited all in our Mercy community to reflect on the sacredness of water in your life, and the life of your community, and to consider taking action to learn more about this precious resource.
Through their Twitter campaign, Mercy Global Action highlighted reflections on water, Laudato Si, extractivism, deforestation, contaminated water, indigenous and vulnerable persons accessibility, and water as a basic human right. MIA Prayer Intention: Migration from War
Mercy International Association holds in our thoughts and prayers all those affected by the war in Ukraine. We are especially aware of those forced to flee their homes and migrate to new lands because of the pain of war. We are proud to call Ireland our Mercy home, as they quickly lifted immigration restrictions and welcomed Ukrainian refugees with open arms. More than 20,000 Ukrainian people now call Ireland home with tens of thousands set to arrive in the coming weeks. So we ask ourselves, how can we support all governments in opening their arms to migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers? We pray…
God, no one is stranger to you
And no one is ever far from your loving care.
In your kindness watch over migrants, refugees and asylum seekers,
Those separated from their loved ones,
Those who are lost
And those who have been exiled from their homes.
Bring them safely to the place where they long to be,
And help us always to show your kindness to strangers
And those in need.
We ask this through Christ our Lord,
Who too was a refugee and migrant
Who traveled to another land
Searching for a home. Amen.

Welcome Denise Fox!
The Board established a special project to research and propose solutions regarding the future of MIA including a review of the sustainability of current governance and organisational structures. It was agreed that we needed a Sister of Mercy who is already widely recognized as a leader in the wider Mercy world, to lead the project. Denise Fox rsm has agreed to accept the role. MIA is particularly grateful to Denise and to the New Zealand sisters for supporting her in this. Feedback heard through Mercy Global Presence gatherings, the Generative Conversation, and other forums suggest now is the right time to consider what role MIA is to take in advancing the mission of Mercy as begun by Catherine McAuley.
