MIA Prayer Intention: Self Reflection

In his Book of Blessings, John O’Donohue calls each of us to reflect. He reminds us “There is a quiet light that shines in every heart. It draws no attention to itself but is always secretly there. It is what illuminates our minds to see beauty, our desire to seek possibility, and our hearts to love life.” Today, we pause in self-reflection and pray…

What dreams did I create last night?
Where did my eyes linger today?
Where was I blind?
Where was I hurt without anyone noticing?
What did I learn today?
What did I read?
What new thoughts visited me?
What differences did I notice in those closest to me?
Whom did I neglect?
Where did I neglect myself?
What did I begin today that might endure?
How were my conversations?
What did I do today for the poor and the excluded?
Did I remember the dead today?
When could I have exposed myself to the risk of something different?
Where did I allow myself to receive love?
With whom today did I feel most myself?
What reached me today? How did it imprint?
Who saw me today?
What visitations had I from the past and from the future?
What did I avoid today?
From the evidence – why was I given this day?

Open Doors Project

The May 2022 meeting of the Directors and Members provided the opportunity to explore the project, Opening Doors. The Board of MIA had affirmed in November 2021 that Strategic Planning for the next few years should be influenced by the Mercy Global Presence (MGP) programme, and the Generative Conversation (GC) held in September 2021 which built on the MGP programme.  What had been heard in the Mercy International Reflection Process (MIRP) before both of those also continued to echo.

Refugee Week: Mercy Works, Finding Peace in Ballarat

When Peace Aziawor, 19, arrived in Ballarat in Victoria in 2011 from Togo, West Africa, she was scared, painfully shy and didn’t want to be seen as different.

So worried was she about standing out, she asked to not be removed from the classroom at Phoenix College for her one-on-one sessions with her Mercy Connect volunteer, Margaret Adams.

Her advice for any refugee or asylum seeker students arriving at a new school “would be cliched!” she laughs: “Be Brave, have an open mind and trust it will turn out for the best. Just never give up, to never doubt yourself – even though your mind tells you otherwise.”
