Young Mercy Leaders: 2022 Review & 2023 Dates Announced!
)
In July, MIA welcomed students from Mercy schools, colleges and universities to Mercy International Centre for the annual Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage. Inspired by Catherine McAuley, the pilgrimage experience offered Mercy students the opportunity to engage with Mercy spirituality, cultivate relationships and connect to a wider Mercy student network. After two years of upheaval and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were excited to host the pilgrimage in-person again at Baggot street. The theme of this year's pilgrimage was ‘Rekindling the Flame: Always Act with Courage!’.
Writing about their experience on this programme students said “I feel so close to Catherine and empowered to continue her vision alongside the Sisters of Mercy” while another noted “I had such an amazing experience here and don’t want to leave. I hope my family recognizes the happy person that comes home!” Overall, it was a beautiful week here at Baggot Street, and as one student wrote “the experience of this week will stick with me forever.”
Consider joining MIA for the next Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage from June 27-30, 2023!

MGA Commences the Mercy Global Action Emerging Leaders Fellowship 2022-2023
Following the success of the 2019-2021 Mercy Global Action Emerging Leaders Fellowship (MELF), MGA is delighted to announce the commencement of the MELF programme for our second cohort of fellows on August 19th in Cambodia. Over the next twelve months, our second cohort of MELF fellows will embark on a transformational journey grounded in Mercy, Justice, and Leadership. To meet the fellows from cohort 2, click here.
Throughout the course of the fellowship, these ten women, who come from diverse backgrounds around the Mercy World, will be challenged to think critically about the global reality of our world through the lenses of Mercy, Leadership, and Justice. The Mercy Global Action Emerging Leaders Fellowship seeks to build upon the capacities of women and provide effective tools to be agents of change in their own communities and in the greater global society. These women are already active leaders of justice and peace in our world; however together, they will build relationships with other Mercy leaders and form a united network, advocating for justice in their own communities. For a full overview of the MELF programme and objectives, follow this link.
Our 2022-2023 MELF programme will be facilitated by Angela Reed rsm, Tylia Barnes, Marietta Latonio, and Siobhán Golden. The programme will commence with our first international immersion in Siem Reap, Cambodia, hosted by Denise Coghlan rsm, at Mindol Metta Karuna Reflection Centre (Jesuit Refugee Services, Cambodia). This immersion will provide opportunities for the fellows to build relationships, explore Mercy values in a Justice context, and engage in personal reflection on justice issues, personal experiences, and their hopes and dreams as emerging leaders. Our theme for the week is “Peace and Reconciliation”.
Catherine McAuley had a deep trust and desire to develop women’s skills and capabilities so that they could carry on the work of Mercy. As these ten women embark on this immense journey, we ask for prayers and blessings that their journey is inspired and led by the heart and charism of Mercy.

MIA Prayer Intention: The Right to a Healthy, Clean, and Sustainable Environment
28th July saw the historic adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of a resolution recognizing “The Right to a Healthy, Clean, and Sustainable Environment” as a basic and universal human right. The UN Human Rights Council had previously affirmed “The right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment” in October 2021. This resolution was applauded by both human rights experts and advocates on climate change and sustainability as a monumental step forward in addressing the environmental crisis – affirming the indivisibility of human rights and of the well-being of humans and nature. To continue this recognition, the Vanuatu-led initiative has gathered support from 1,500 civil society partners in 130 countries to seek an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on climate change harm to be supported at the UN General Assembly in September.
In recognition of our connectedness with Earth, Mercy International Association prays that each of us will feel called to recognize and advocate for the right to a healthy, clean, and sustainable environment for all persons. Together we pray…
Limitless by Danna Faulds
Sun says, “Be your own
illumination.” Wren says,
“Sing your heart out,
all day long.” Stream says,
“Do not stop for any
obstacle.” Oak says,
“When the wind blows,
bend easily, and trust
your roots to hold.”
Stars say, “What you see
is one small slice of a
single modest galaxy.
Remember that vastness
cannot be grasped by mind.”
Ant says, “Small does not
mean powerless.” Silence
says nothing. In the quiet,
everything comes clear.
I say, “Limitless.” I say,
“Yes.”
