Announcing the transformation of Mercy Convent St John’s Newfoundland
The former Mercy Convent on Military Road in St. John's will be the new home of an emergency shelter, transitional housing and affordable housing for guests of The Gathering Place.
The renovation work has begun to transform it into a shelter and supportive housing structure that will accommodate 90 persons in need of temporary and transitional housing. It is hoped that the project will be completed by June 2024.

“Leave No One Behind”
Sr Maryanne’s micro-financing initiative; the “Leave No One Behind” Village and Life Savings Association (LNB – VSLA) is creating economic empowerment and improving the lives of the people of Simbu.
Essentially, the entrepreneurial capacity of individuals, families and communities is enhanced by promoting a saving culture and increasing access to credit to enable them to embark on income generating activities to sustain and improve their livelihoods. It is a collaborative effort taken by the local community towards financial freedom.

Mercy Volunteer Corps and Students from Gwynedd Mercy University visit MGA Office
Recently, Mercy Global Action had the privilege of hosting Mercy Volunteer Corps (MVC) and students from Gwynedd Mercy University at our New York office.
MVC, an esteemed ministerial partner of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas since 1993, has been empowering volunteers for social change since its establishment in 1978.

JUNE 14, 1861
Sr Bernard Dickson and founding party arrived in Wellington, New Zealand.
Mother Bernard Dickson, had entered the Bermondsey foundation in London in 1847. She had nursed in the Crimea for several months before being invalided home.
In 1857, she was invited to join a group of five Sisters of Mercy from Carlow travelling to Auckland New Zealand. Four years later Sr Bernard was one of three sisters who travelled to Wellington in response to a plea from the bishop there.

New Leadership Team
The Institute of Our Lady of Mercy, Great Britain, held their Ninth General Chapter from 22nd May to 2nd June 2023.
A new Leadership Team was elected at the Chapter and will take up their role on 1 September 2023. Sister Bernadette Holmes, (seated centre) who is a member of the present Leadership Team, will be the new Leader. Her Assistant Leader will be Sister Bernie Roche. Sisters Lynda Dearlove Jude Groden and Christina O’Donnell will complete the team of five.
We pray God’s blessing on them and all their endeavours.

Walking with Catherine
Susan Cahill, Programme Coordinator with Mercy International Association, recently led 15 students from the McAuley School of Nursing Detroit on a 3-hour walking tour of Catherine’s Dublin – visiting several sights and landmarks in Catherine’s life.
This bespoke social history tour takes pilgrims back to Dublin of the 1820’s and 1830’s and tells the unique and compelling story of Catherine McAuley and the Founding Sisters.

Creative Meditation Retreat
Creativity and meditation are intertwined and life giving and yet we don’t always allow ourselves the time to explore either. Enjoy a gentle introduction to both on this relaxing weekend. All our life is open to our imagination and creativity. Through breathing, poetry and textiles we will practice becoming more aware and present to the possibilities of our daily lives.
Facilitated by Marja Almqvist, textile artist and Jo Kennedy, rsm.

The World Meeting on Human Fraternity, known as "Not Alone" (#NotAlone), occurred on June 10th, 2023, in Saint Peter's Square in Rome. Cardinal Mauro Gambetti delivered a speech at the conference, emphasizing the significance of rediscovering fraternity in today's world. Notable attendees included Sr. Denise Coghlan, R.S.M., and Tun "Reth" Channareth.

Mercy Walks with Migrants
Sister Mary Waskowiak and Sister Mary Kay Dobrovolny live and work at Casa de Misericordia in San Diego. This ministry is located 12 miles from the border with Mexico. The ministry is one of the many ways Mercy is responding to the Critical Concern for Immigration. Srs. Mary and Mary Kay were interviewed about their ministry.
