Mercy Day Poem

Mercy Day by Sr. Mary Wickham

If we utter aloud the word mercy,
standing, each of us, by an open window
anywhere we are in the world,
then the word mercy will carry on the soundwaves
onwards and unceasing,
through the air of the wounded world.

Mercy as a Value by Sr. Patricia Smith

Mercy is a mode of relationship, not a momentary sporadic feeling. It is, rather, a habit of mind and heart, a way of organizing and interpreting the world. It is an enduring approach to the world.

International Literacy Day

Worth Knowing

International Literacy Day

Catherine McAuley advocated on the importance of access to education for young people. Catherine believed that education opened doors for those in need. Today over 763 million young people in our world lack basic literacy skills. International Literacy Day is celebrated each year on the 8th of September to remind the public about the relationship between literacy skills, the Sustainable Development goals and human rights.  Research by UNESCO suggests the Coronavirus pandemic, climate change and conflicts are exacerbating the challenges.
