As the Season of Creation approaches, the Mercy World celebrates the beauty, wisdom and generosity of all Creation. The theme of the 2021 Season of Creation is ‘A Home for All? Renewing the Oikos of God.’
In the midst of global turbulence, the Christian family has awakened to the urgent need to heal our relationships with creation and with each other. This year’s invitation to celebrate the Season of Creation is accompanied by a substantial guide filled with prayers, advocacy and more. The guide highlights that “Sustaining just ecological, social, economic and political relationships requires our faith, reason and wisdom. By faith, we join in remembering that we are not stewards of an inanimate creation, but caretakers within a dynamic and living community of creation. The Earth and all that is not a given, but a gift, held in trust”.
During this time of renewal, we express gratitude, love and a commitment to care for all living things. We must hear the cries of Earth and those rendered poor while echoing Pope Francis’ call to “strengthen the conviction that we are one single human family”.
Mercy Global Action’s Call during the Season of Creation:
- Continue to grow our ecological consciousness of the gift of Creation and the interconnectedness of our Common Home.
- Listen to the wisdom of faith and traditional knowledge, holding Earth as sacred.
- Lift up the voices of the youth and join them in encouraging the radical change that is needed to protect our planet.
- Encourage world leaders to strengthen multilateralism and be guided by faith and science to promote environmental integrity, respect for human rights and dignity, inclusivity, gender-responsivity, and justice.
