MIA Staff return to Catherine's House

The staff of Mercy International Association (MIA) based in Baggot Street were able to return to Catherine’s House today, Monday 8th June 2026 after a nine-month programme of Essential Works.

The team will be working alongside our construction crew for the next few weeks as we ready the house to be open again for programmes in July.

It was a wonderful feeling to be back in the house and to see the spaces starting to come back to us.

We will have a full update in the next Mercy eNews but for now we wanted to show you the joy of being back and we look forward to welcoming you back too!

Background

Catherine’s House - Mercy International Centre, 64a Lower Baggot Street, Dublin, the historic first House of Mercy opened by Catherine McAuley on 24 September 1827, closed to the public for Essential Works at the end of September 2025.

The Essential Works began in November 2025 and were scheduled to be completed for June 2026. The Works are designed to strengthen the building’s fire safety and structural performance while protecting the integrity and spirit of a building that is a cherished heritage site visited by thousands each year.

El personal de la Asociación Internacional de la Misericordia (Mercy International Association, MIA), con sede en Baggot Street, pudo regresar hoy, lunes 8 de junio de 2026, a la Casa de Catalina (Catherine’s House) tras un programa de nueve meses de Obras Esenciales.

Durante las próximas semanas, el equipo trabajará junto con nuestro personal de construcción mientras preparamos la casa para reabrir sus programas en julio.

Fue una sensación maravillosa volver a la casa y ver cómo los espacios comienzan a volver a ser nuestros.

Antecedentes

La Casa de Catalina – Centro Internacional de la Misericordia (Catherine’s House – Mercy International Centre), ubicada en el número 64A de Lower Baggot Street, Dublín, la histórica primera Casa de la Misericordia inaugurada por Catalina McAuley el 24 de septiembre de 1827, cerró al público a finales de septiembre de 2025 para llevar a cabo Obras Esenciales.

Las Obras Esenciales comenzaron en noviembre de 2025 y estaba previsto que concluyeran en junio de 2026. Estas obras están diseñadas para reforzar la seguridad contra incendios y la estabilidad estructural del edificio, al tiempo que protegen la integridad y el espíritu de un inmueble que constituye un valioso patrimonio histórico y es visitado por miles de personas cada año.
