Faces of Ireland tour from USA visits Catherine’s House

On 25 May last Alumni of Misericordia University, Dallas, PA along with Mercy Associates from 11 States and their friends visited Catherine McAuley’s House in Dublin. It was part of a ‘Faces of Ireland’ tour hosted by Dr Marie Noel Keller RSM in honour of Misericordia’s 100 th Anniversary. It was also marking the 200th Anniversary of the death of Fr. Joseph Nugent, one of Catherine’s priest friends who helped her find a place to make her dream to help the poor women and children of Dublin become real.

Commenting on the visit to Mercy International Centre, Dr Keller rsm said, “What a privilege it was to sit in her first school, and in a room where the first Mercy surgery was performed, much less pray in the chapel she prayed in, and sit and reflect on her life in the room from she went home to God!

“It was wonderful to conclude our visit sitting and reflecting on the morning over a good cup of tea! Truly this was a Face of Ireland no one will ever forget.”

Further aspects of the Faces of Ireland tour includes, The Book of Kells experience, Kilmainham Gaol, Cobh Heritage Centre, Derrynanne, Daniel O’Connell’s Kerry residence, The Cliffs of Moher, Monasterboise, Galway and The Claddagh, Connemara, and Belfast.
