From Catherine's House to the Mercy World - Our celebration of Mercy Day 2025

With just over a week to go to Mercy Day 2025 we wanted to share some of what will be available from Catherine's House in Dublin.

The 24th of September 2025 marks the official two year countdown to the 200th anniversary of the opening of the House of Mercy on 24 September 1827. We are inviting the entire Mercy World to save the date for a Mercy World celebration in two year's time! Get those calendars marked.

We will also be celebrating Mass in Catherine's House and making this available to the Mercy World for Mercy Day 2025. Our celebrant is Bishop Paul Dempsey, Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin. We have a wonderful liturgy prepared and look forward to sharing it with you.

The House Has Her Say - a new poem from Sr Mary Wickham RSM

We have a new poem from Sr Mary Wickham RSM which we will share as part of the Mercy Day Mass and which will be available afterwards as a video and text download. It's called The House Has Her Say and reflects the upcoming temporary closure of the house for renovations.

We also have a very important letter which was sent to us recently in MIA which we look forward to sharing with you.

Our website is full of resources on Catherine McAuley and Mercy which we invite you to dip into along with our online Preservica archive where you can view lots of our resources and artefacts including the original House Plans and many of Catherine's Letters. You will find the link to this and other Heritage Resources on our website.

We have also added some quick links to Prayers, Reflections and Poetry for Mercy Day 2025. Click here.

Our Prayer Centre is also live each day and you can leave a prayer petition there for your intentions which will be included in our Mass for Mercy Day.

How the Mercy World will celebrate Mercy Day

We are hearing wonderful stories from across the Mercy World about how Mercy Day will be celebrated. Below is some of the information that has come in to us:

Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy

September 24th is also the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy. The Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy has made available a wonderful Novena. This Novena has been created by Kathy Rule rsm for use in preparation for the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy

The Novena draws on the Constitutions of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy with a different Constitution chosen each day for reflection and prayer.

You can download a PDF of the Novena here.

Mercy High School in Omaha, Nebraska

Mercy High School in Omaha Nebraska will perform a play about Catherine's Life for Mercy Day. The director of the play is Kaitlyn Hill a current senior who visited Catherine’s house three year's ago. We will have a report about the play and some pics in an upcoming issue of Mercy eNews.

Mercy Education Toolkit for Mercy Day 2025

Mercy Education has prepared a Toolkit based on the theme 'The Cloak of Mercy' which invites us to reflect on God’s mercy as a sheltering, unifying force. In their Toolkit you can explore prayers, activities, and ways to celebrate in your school community:

Sisters of Mercy of the Americas

The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas are preparing for Mercy Day 2025 by featuring the stories of four Sisters whose ministries help cloak their communities in mercy.

The cloak reference goes all the way back to the opening of House of Mercy in Dublin on 24 September 1827. Thus began the legacy of extending the 'Cloak of Mercy' over the poor, sick, lonely, hungry and suffering of our own time and place.

Watch their Cloak of Mercy video here.
