May Meetings of Directors and Members
)
Over the past two weeks a series of meetings have been held by zoom. These included meetings of the Board, meetings of Members, joint meetings of Directors and Members, and the Annual General Meeting (AGM). At the AGM, Sr Paula Thomas (Federation of the Sisters of Mercy Great Britain) was elected as a Director to replace Sr Colette Cronin (The Institute of Our Lady of Mercy (UK)). Sincere thanks was expressed to Colette for her nine years of board service, and to Paula for being willing to take on Directorship responsibilities.
Sr Pat McDermott (Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas) was re-elected as President of the Members, with Sr Loreto Conroy (Sisters of Mercy North Sydney) also re-elected as the Vice-President. Sr Sue France (Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa Sisters of Mercy New Zealand) was elected as the Recorder of Proceedings. At a beautiful farewell ceremony, the Members farewelled Sister Philomena Bowers (The Union of the Sisters of Mercy of Great Britain) and Sr Elizabeth Davis who are finishing their terms as leaders. The Members also took the opportunity to meet with Sr Mary Reynolds, thanking her for her wonderful contribution to MIA and wishing her well for the future.
A highlight of the board meetings was a reflection session on Mercy Global Presence led by Sr Elizabeth Davis, current leader of Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of Newfoundland. Several Members were able to join the Directors for this. It is planned that a recording of Elizabeth’s presentation will be made generally available.
It was a busy meeting for the Board. In addition to attending to the regular business of the meeting, the Directors decided to establish a Mission Committee and they caught up with progress being made with renovation projects at Mercy International Centre. Directors expressed their appreciation for those who participated in the survey re Mercy E-News. Respondents were fairly evenly split between those who wanted to stay with a weekly newsletter and those who would prefer a longer interval between editions. The matter is being considered further.
Everyone is looking forward to being able to meet in person in the not-too-distant future.
