Mercy Day at Mercy International Centre 2020

For several years now Mercy Day, 24 September, has been marked by a special Mass in the Baggot Street Chapel followed by a celebratory meal at Mercy International Centre.  It has been a wonderful opportunity to welcome local Sisters, visiting Sisters and Mercy people to come together and remember the story of Mercy’s beginnings in this place.  In addition to those gathered at Baggot Street, others have been able to join in celebrating the feast when it has been live-streamed.

The Feast takes us back to our beginnings and also nourishes our spirit for the present and our hope for the future.  Catherine, in describing the central role of Mercy in the Christian life, wrote  “Mercy, the principal path pointed out by Jesus Christ to those who are desirous of following Him….”

It will come as no surprise to learn that it will not be possible to gather as usual this year because of the pandemic restrictions on travel and gatherings.  However, there will be Mass in the Baggot Street Chapel at 12 noon Dublin time (Your time here) on Mercy Day, 24 September.  The Mass will be live-streamed through the Mercyworld.org website and everyone is invited.

So mark the date and time in your calendars now, invite others to put the date in their diary and join in - perhaps by physically gathering with you on the day if social distancing regulations in your place allow . Details on how to connect in and where to download the liturgy leaflet will be available in Mercy eNews in the coming weeks.

We hope many people of Mercy will come together for this special occasion.
