Mercy Echoes Episode Nine

Mercy Echoes is the official podcast of Mercy International Association (MIA), presented by Brenda Drumm, MIA Head of Communications.

MIA is an organisation of the leaders of Mercy Congregations, Institutes and Federations throughout the world, founded to serve the Sisters of Mercy, their associates and partners in ministry.⁠ ⁠

The purpose of this Association is to inspire Sisters of Mercy and their Associates to incarnate the spirit o Catherine McAuley in ways which are creative and appropriate to the needs of our time and to foster unity of mind and heart among Sisters of Mercy worldwide.

Episode Nine

Our guest for episode nine is Mary Pat Garvin RSM. Mary Pat is a Sister of Mercy of the Americas. Mary Pat serves as an educator, consultant, and facilitator for national and international institutes and conferences of religious.

She has a particular interest in working with formators of religious, recognizing the need to prepare newer members for a religious life that is global and culturally diverse.

Her ministries and service to religious life and other organizations have included: being a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Institute leadership team (2011-2017), co-designer of and teacher in the UISG international program for the preparation of formators, interim co-executive director of the Religious Formation Program, and a faculty member of the Institute of Psychology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

Mary Pat holds a doctorate in psychology from the Pontifical Gregorian University where she served on the faculty for eight years. Her research interests include the interplay of spirituality and psychology in promoting a healthy and holy living of religious life.

Earlier this year Sr Mary Pat was presented with the “Outstanding Leadership Award” from the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) in the U.S. and we were determined not to let the end of the year pass without getting her onto the podcast for a chat.
