Mercy Echoes Episode Six

Mercy Echoes is the official podcast of Mercy International Association (MIA), presented by Brenda Drumm, MIA Head of Communications.

MIA is an organisation of the leaders of Mercy Congregations, Institutes and Federations throughout the world, founded to serve the Sisters of Mercy, their associates and partners in ministry.⁠ ⁠

The purpose of this Association is to inspire Sisters of Mercy and their Associates to incarnate the spirit o Catherine McAuley  in ways which are creative and appropriate to the needs of our time and to foster unity of mind and heart among Sisters of Mercy worldwide.

Episode Six

Our guest for episode six is Dr Tania Hicks, a Senior Lecturer at the Catholic Institute of Western Australia.

Tania lectures in the fields of Catholic Education, Religious Education and secondary education. She is an educator passionate about fostering student spiritual growth and she holds a Doctor of Education in this area from the University of Notre Dame Australia.

Tania’s career includes extensive teaching and leadership experience in the Catholic and government school sectors. She served Santa Maria College, a Catholic all girls’ school in the Mercy Tradition, in Perth, Western Australia, for 17 years.

She currently lectures in a variety of post-graduate university courses. Tania’s research interests include: spirituality; faith formation; and, student and staff pastoral care.

Dr Tania spoke to Brenda about her research into the impact of a Mercy Education on student spiritual growth.

She shared some of the findings of her research and some of the things that surprised her.

Dr Tania also spoke about the importance of those in leadership and teaching roles to take time to step back for prayer, reflection and contemplation.
