MGA to Participate in Laudato Si' Week
)
Mercy Global Action will participate in Laudato Si’ week 2021, to be held virtually from May 16th- 25th. Hosted by the Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM) with the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and endorsed by over 150 organisations, including MIA, the week will provide opportunities for reflection, prayer and action for our common home. You are invited to participate in the events of this week and can register your interest by clicking here.
Significantly on May 17, GCCM will broadcast an event entitled Laudato Si Dialogue. This event will highlight the political opportunities in 2021 to ‘create change, the essential relevance and inspiration of the Encyclical letter Laudato Si’ and a Catholic voice on preparation for UN’s COP15 summit on biodiversity as well as the COP26 climate summit. Last year MGA published ‘Hope in a Time of Pandemic’ which addresses many of these issues, spotlighting systemic inequalities in social, economic, political and environmental areas. This can be accessed here.
In preparation for this week you may like to reflect on the research project of Jemima Welsh, who graduated in February from the Mercy Global Action Emerging Leaders Fellowship. Jemima’s research is entitled, ‘Money as Mercy: A guide for the Global Mercy Community on participating meaningfully in the impact economy’. To view Jemima’s presentation click here. In addition to the presentation you can download the accompanying guide here. This guide offers an introduction to the emerging ‘impact economy’, and puts forward a decision-making framework for members of the Mercy community to use when considering ways to invest, save and purchase intentionally within this new system
In the words of Pope Francis, “Let’s take care of creation , a gift of our good Creator God. Let’s celebrate Laudato Si week together.” Watch Pope Francis’ invitation here.
