Open Days at St Mary's Convent, Handsworth, England

Explaining the features of the Pugin Chapel

On Friday 14th and Saturday 15th September 2018, St Mary’s Convent, Handsworth opened for the nationwide annual Heritage Open Days

We had a very successful Heritage Open Days and Birmingham Heritage Week at St Mary’s Convent, Handsworth.  We welcomed just over eighty people over the two days and there was a certain excitement and buzz to the place during that time.  There was a range of interest, from people wanting to see the architecture, to people wanting to learn about the Sisters, to past pupils interested to see the convent where they once went to school.  It is great for us here at St Mary’s to be able to share the Heritage trail and the story of this convent and of the congregation of the Sisters of Mercy more widely.

Among the feedback received were the following comments:

‘A truly beautiful building, quite magnificent’

‘Thank you for a break from a hectic life to look around such a peaceful place’

‘A really fascinating insight into a worth and delightful treasure in our home city’

Thank you to all those involved from St Mary’s Convent and thank you also to everyone who took the time to visit us.
