New Social Enterprise Cafe at Melbourne’s Mercy Hub

Crafted Culture is a new café located at Melbourne’s Mercy Hub. It is an initiative of SisterWorks, a not-for-profit social enterprise that began in 2013. The café is staffed by women from migrant, refugee and asylum-seeker backgrounds many of whom have graduated from free training courses offered by SisterWorks at three other locations across Melbourne.

The Sisters of Mercy of Newfoundland held their 23rd General Chapter from 22—25 June 2025.  A new Leadership Team was chosen to lead the Congregation forward during the next four years. Elected are Sr Diane Smyth, Congregational Leader, Sr Elizabeth Marrie, Sr Eileen Penney and Sr Verna Aucoin.

We also introduced the YML Comms Crew for the first time and handed over the reporting duties to six of our young pilgrims who did a fantastic job. Earlier this week, Pope Leo XIV welcomed young people in Rome for the Jubilee of Youth. After the welcoming Mass in St. Peter’s Square, which was celebrated by Monsignor Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, the Pontiff made a few trips round St Peter’s Square in the popemobile to greet those present. The Holy Father reminded the young pilgrims that they are “the salt of the earth, the light of the world.”
